Kindergarten students engage in exploration with materials to develop creativity and innovative thinking. They learn proper procedures for safely using materials. Students talk about artwork, make observations, and analyze and compare works of art. They make connections between their artwork and their personal lives, Units include: Lines and Shapes; Color; Collage; Mixed Media Landscapes; Painting; and Self-Portraits.
I grade projects using the following rubric.
Thinking about my work, problem solving, trying something new, understanding key ideas,
3 = I tried something new. I remembered what I’ve learned and made connections. I followed directions. Every part of my art is meant to be there.
2 = I made something that was not hard for me. I didn’t try something new. I do not really understand the idea we learned about or I did not follow directions.
1 = I did not try a new way to make art and there are no connections to what I’ve learned. My project does not include the idea we learned about at all or is incomplete.
Craftsmanship and Effort
Appropriate, neat, and creative use of materials; artwork shows pride, patience, care, and effort.
3 = My artwork was beautifully, carefully, and patiently created. I worked as hard as I could and did my very best.
